That is why the project is compiling and validating Best Management Practices (BMPs) to improve nutrient-use efficiency and reduce losses across five key sectors: agriculture; water and waste management; industry; energy and transport; and other primary sectors such as aquaculture and forestry.
How Best Management Practices are implemented

At NPower, we understand that reducing Nitrogen and Phosphorus emissions requires changes in the way nutrients are managed on a daily basis, from agricultural practices to water treatment and spatial planning.

BMPs range from agricultural strategies to measures in other sectors such as the reuse of treated water, optimisation of industrial processes, or sustainable energy management.

  • Practical, accessible, and easily replicable knowledge is generated.
  • Effective practices that reduce N and P emissions are identified.
  • Adoption is facilitated through digital resources (the Digital Kit) and capacity-building activities.
  • Practices are adapted to regional contexts through the work of the Regional Clusters and their Multi-Actor Transition Groups (MATs).

The Digital Kit

The collection of identified practices will be available interactively as an open and practical online repository. Farmers, technical advisers, local authorities, and companies will be able to access concise factsheets with clear descriptions, expected benefits, and implementation guidelines.
